The
Consumer Horticulture Center is a Penn State,

to educate consumers in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania about horticulture
and gardening-related topics. Through the dissemination of information using
fact sheets,
garden questions, publications, and an educational

is to provide consumers with information to develop skills necessary to

Are
you a gardener who can’t wait until temperatures warm up enough
to work the soil? Though early spring may still be too cold to sow seeds
outdoors or to go to the local garden center to purchase plants, there
are several fact sheets that can help get you thinking about the planning,
physical work, and rewards that lie ahead. “Using Color in the Garden”
is a fact sheet intended to help gardeners add color to their garden design.
Primary, secondary, and tertiary colors are discussed as well as color
schemes including: complementary, contrasting, and analogous color designs.
Have you ever considered how easy and fun it is to grow your own herbs?
“Growing Herbs Outdoors” is a fact sheet that will help you
understand site selection and preparation, planting, and additional care
needed for perennial herbs. (If you've never grown herbs before, try it!)
Herbs add color to the garden, have interesting textured leaves, and can
be used to flavor your favorite culinary dishes.
